Waitrose confirms it will close “confusing” part of its loyalty scheme

Waitrose has confirmed that the “Pick Your Own Offers” part of its loyalty scheme is to be closed down at the end of February after customers found it too “confusing”.

Launched back in 2015, Mark Price, the Managing Director at the time, reportedly said that the scheme was “groundbreaking” but potentially expensive.

The scheme, which is available to those with a myWaitrose card, currently enables customers to pick 10 products to get a 20% discount on, out of hundreds of items. In what appears to be a staff briefing document about the closure posted on hotukdeals.com, the luxury supermarket chain said that customers had increasingly told it that the process for “choosing and remembering” what they had picked was “quite confusing”.

Waitrose will now be providing “tailored vouchers and personalised offers”

The supermarket said that it would be providing “tailored vouchers and personalised offers through the post or at the checkout”.

Editor of shopperpoints.co.uk, Anika Newjoto, told the Guardian: “

Pick your own offers was simply too complex for the average busy shopper. Unless you regularly went back on to the website to change your selection as your preferred products changed, it became less and less useful.

“Most people will have forgotten what was on their list”.

Customers can still take advantage of “Pick Your Own Offers” until 28 February

Customers will still be able to get their “Pick Your Own Offers” discount as normal, up until 28 February. Waitrose has advised customers to delete the “Pick Your Own” app from their phone after the scheme shuts down.

Waitrose to trial yoga sessions in three of its shops

Waitrose has also announced this week that it will be trialling evening yoga sessions in three of its shops.

Stores in Basingstoke and Newbury will be the first to host the yoga classes from 12 February, followed one week later by the supermarket’s new Banbury shop.

Moira Howie, the Nutrition Manager at Waitrose, said:

“We know that overall well-being is increasingly important to our customers. In addition to eating well they can now relax and enjoy the benefits of yoga in selected Waitrose stores while meeting new people”.

Waitrose says that the classes, which are suitable for all levels and will be run by qualified yoga professionals, will cost £7 per session or £35 for six sessions.

The supermarket says that it will decide whether or not to roll out the sessions to other stores, once the trial has come to an end.

Waitrose is also currently trialling a personal nutritionist service in two of its shops in the South East of England, which it says is “designed to provide customers with dietary advice tailored specifically to their individual needs”.
