The world-famous Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show, known as CES never fails to hit the headlines. This year is no different.
From the most innovative gadgets that have the potential to change millions of lives, to the questionable contraptions that make us laugh, we take a peek into the future tech of 2018, with our Top 5 heroes of CES 2018.
1. Cocoon Cam
This is a baby monitor…but supercharged.
Cocoon Cam says that it is the first baby monitor with secure HD video and real-time breathing monitoring. It also enables you to communicate with your baby from your smartphone and alerts you if your baby is starting to wake up or if there is a change in their breathing. It can also provide you with detailed sleep analytics.
Is this a great idea that will soothe an anxious parent’s worries or another bit of tech that compels us to constantly be on our phones? Only time will tell, but we think we could see a lot more of this type of tech over the coming years.
OK, so it’s just a concept at the moment, but this car called “Snap”, designed by Rinspeed can divide into two sections, one of which looks like a gigantic skateboard.
The makers of Snap at CES say that this means that it could be used for a number of different purposes (when it’s not moving), such as a shopping pod or a “cosy cuddling pod”.
We quite like the idea of riding on the big skateboard and just stepping off when we reach our destination…although we’re not quite sure that this is what it’s supposed to be for.
3. The suitcase that will follow you…
This is one of our favourites from CES 2018. It may not change the world, but if you are forever getting up and leaving your suitcase behind, this could be the one for you.
ForwardX is a suitcase with a little camera that will follow you around. According to this reporter, you will also need to wear a wristband too, in case your suitcase loses sight of you.
We were tickled by the idea of thousands of suitcases following their owners around airports and cities across the world. But don’t rush out to buy one, as it’s not in the shops yet. And the cost hasn’t been confirmed.
We’re a nation of animal lovers, so a bed that analyses your pet’s sleep pattern and weight, is surely going to be a hit.
Whether it’s just a gimmick or something that will really stand the test of time, remains to be seen. We think it would be great for animals who are ill in the vets, as it would enable the vet to keep a very close eye on an animal’s recovery.
5. Miliboo’s smart sofa
This one is a bit of a wild card, as we’re not sure we would want to know exactly how long we have been sat in front of the TV and how we are probably sitting in the completely wrong position, but it’s an interesting one nonetheless.
We have been told for a while now that the future is in smart homes, so maybe we’ll have to face up to the fact that tech will be telling us some uncomfortable truths about our lifestyles!
